Let America Vote Releases Ads in Three States to Fight Voter Suppression
The combination of digital and radio ads targets politicians in Georgia, Virginia and New Hampshire
Starting this week, Let America Vote is airing advertisements in Georgia and Virginia encouraging voters to take action and hold accountable the politicians complicit in suppressing voters. Last week, Let America Vote also released a digital advertisement in New Hampshire opposing a voter suppression bill that was being debated in the state legislature. The advertisements are the first that Let America Vote will run alerting voters across the country when politicians make it harder for people to vote.
“There are politicians in 29 states working to make it harder to for people to vote, and that’s simply unacceptable,” said Jason Kander, president of Let America Vote. “Let America Vote is going to make sure they think twice before supporting political schemes to take away voting rights. The elected officials in Georgia, Virginia and New Hampshire should be doing everything they can to make it easier for people to vote, but they’re doing the opposite. Let America Vote will ensure their constituents know about it.”
Digital and radio advertisements in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District call on Secretary of State Brian Kemp to make sure early voting opportunities are not reduced in the upcoming special election. The ads in Georgia follow letters sent by Let America Vote to elections officials in Cobb and DeKalb Counties regarding plans to limit early voting. Since the letters were sent, DeKalb County has added an additional early voting location for the upcoming special election. The landing page for the Georgia digital ad can be found here.
Let America Vote’s radio ad in Virginia titled “Copier” encourages voters to push back against a Republican plan to overturn Governor McAuliffe’s veto of a bill that would require a photo copy of a state-issued ID included with absentee ballots. Listen to “Copier” here.
The New Hampshire digital ad is a call to action against Senate Bill 3, which could strip voting rights from college students and would allow elections officers to visit people’s homes to check in on residents just because they voted. The bill passed the Senate last Thursday and now heads to the House floor for further debate.
Let America Vote launched in February 2017 to fight back against proposals across the country that make it harder for eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot. Whether it’s extreme identification requirements, questionable purges of voter rolls, voter intimidation, new and extreme voter registration processes, or anything that makes voting harder, Let America Vote will be there to lead the way against it. Its president is Jason Kander, the former Missouri Secretary of State.
